This week, A&M Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) Education and Education Technology (EdTech) Services is attending the annual ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego – the leading conference for education providers, EdTech companies, investors, professional services firms, and other industry stakeholders.
Many discussions over the first two days at the Summit have centered on #ArtificialIntelligence (AI), and there is no doubt that AI plays a major role in the future of education and EdTech. That said, several panelists have cautioned that AI should be thought of as a key part of the sector’s future, rather than the entire future. These statements may in part reflect ongoing uncertainty about the ultimate effects of AI – but they also highlight the continuing importance of human judgment in areas such as content creation, assessments, product development and mass customization. AI is likely to be a significant topic in education for a long time to come, and investors in the sector should consider both its potential and its limitations when evaluating specific opportunities.
